Mobile Phone Signal Booster - UK

There is nothing worse than looking at your mobile phone, only to discover you have no signal. Unfortunately, in some parts of the UK, poor network coverage is depressingly common. This is where a mobile phone signal repeater can come in rather handy. But, do mobile signal booster kits actually work? Let’s find out.

Network Coverage

In cities, network coverage tends to be good. There are mobile masts everywhere. Look up and you’ll spot numerous mobile network towers sitting on top of office buildings. Drive along the motorway and you’ll see ubiquitous squat towers in mesh compounds, lurking behind hedges. The big four networks have spent millions installing infrastructure to ensure we have comprehensive coverage across the UK. They claim to offer 99% coverage, but as anyone knows, this is optimistic, to say the least.

Problems usually arise in rural areas where network coverage is much lower. Once you leave the urban sprawl behind, mobile transmitter towers are in short supply. There are large transmitter towers in prominent locations, but don’t expect your mobile signal to be strong in remote parts of Devon or mid-Wales.

You may also have a problem indoors. Many older properties have thick walls, which hinder signal strength. Network signal also struggles with metal and other impenetrable materials. This is why you may struggle to achieve more than one bar indoors, whereas outdoors the signal is four or five bars. Some people also find that network coverage is better upstairs than downstairs. Thankfully, a mobile booster can make life much easier. Instead of driving ten miles to make a phone call or send a text message, you can chill on the sofa and carry on as normal.

Does A Phone Booster Work?

A signal booster can’t provide a signal where there is none. Mobile phone signal booster kits amplify existing signals, so you need at least one bar for a mobile signal booster to work. An outdoor antenna picks up the network signal and transmits it to a phone signal booster, which removes interference and sends it on to an indoor antenna. This antenna acts as your own personal network mast.

You can even use 3G and 4G signal boosters in-car. This protects you from network blackspots when you are on the move, which is useful if you rely on your phone when in the car. However, be aware that you can’t use a mobile repeater in a caravan or on a boat.

Test Your Mobile Signal

To test whether a 3G or 4G booster will work in your home, test your signal strength in all areas. If you can see at least one bar, then a 3G or 4G booster is worth buying. But if you can’t pick up any signal, a mobile booster isn’t going to solve your problems. All you can do in this instance is to try switching to a different network.

Mobile phone signal boosters are very useful for anyone who struggles to make calls and send text messages at home. In-car mobile signal boosters are perfect for people who drive a lot and need to stay in touch with family, friends, colleagues, and clients.
